PAMELA SUSTAITA
(b. 1993, Mexico City)
Sustaita's work focuses on the confrontation between the realms of beauty- violence and the innocence oneiric- horror, thus delving into the duality of existence and the orchard where its boundaries blur, creating a discourse through the building of compulsive worlds that allude the intersection between the real and the uncanny. Her work explores identity and its fragmentation, gender, violence and its biomimicry within nature, reclaming that place where reality begins to fracture through writing and drawing.
Her work's vertiginous nature has demanded the use of expanded drawing practices and large-scale surfaces, allowing her meticulous process to unfold as extensively as each work demands creating an immersive experience within each piece.
Sustaita holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado “La Esmeralda” (ENPEG) and a diploma in Creative Writing from the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL).
She has been a recipient of the Jóvenes Creadores (FONCA) Mexican government grant twice in 2019-2020, 2024-2025. Her work has been exhibited in various venues including IAGO (Oaxaca City, 2023), Embajada de México en Japónメキシコ大使館(Tokyo, 2024), Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City, 2021) and Courtyard Hiroo (Tokyo, 2025, artist-in-residence) among others.
Alongside her artistic practice, Sustaita maintains an ongoing collaboration as a writer for NYLON JAPAN.
